Members of this organization give freely of their time and funds. All 48 chapters must contribute time and money annually to charities within their own communities. Additionally, as a National organization, the NABSMC also contributes to worthy charities throughout the year. This organization consists of proud professional black men and women who believe that they can make a substantial difference in their communities. They are proud of the rich history of the Buffalo Soldiers and enjoy spreading that history wherever they ride. Ken “Dreamaker” Thomas, a Chicago policeman is considered the Founding Father of the National Association of Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club. “Dreamaker” started the 1st chapter of Buffalo Soldiers in Chicago in 1993. In 1994 he changed the chapter’s name to Buffalo Troopers, a name that is now used by other chapters within the national organization. In 1995 Brian “Sensei” Bulow, founder of the Maryland Buffalo Soldiers started the 1st chapter outside of the city of Chicago. It was quickly followed by a 3rd chapter in 1996 when Carl “Road Dog” Laury requested and received permission to start a chapter of Buffalo Soldiers in the city of Tampa, Florida. Two more chapters, Virginia and Delaware followed in1997. By the time we reached the 1999 National Bikers Round-Up in Greenville, SC., we had added New Jersey and talks turned to forming a national organization. We all met in a big tent on that hot August day. We knew that something special was about to take place. We brought our significant others and together the presidents and vice presidents of those 6 chapters sat down and began to formulate the ideas and guidelines that now serve as our directives. Everyone in attendance voted to start this new adventure of being a national organization and a positive influence in the motorcycling community. I remember how much we laughed and celebrated that day and all the fun that we had taking pictures of that historical moment. Now in less than 7 years our growth has been tremendous. We have accomplished far more in our individual communities then we ever expected when we first began in 1999. We currently have 47 chapters in 29 states all across America and recently added our 1st international chapter, the Buffalo Soldiers of Halifax, Nova Scotia. We have been featured in national TV documentaries, radio talk shows, magazines, and more newspapers than we can name. We are constantly called upon to perform at schools, youth organizations, churches and veterans groups. We are most proud and honored when we are asked to assist at the funerals of our many American veteran brothers and sisters. In 2004 the National Association of Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club was approved by the Department of the Army to conduct a Memorial Ceremony at the Buffalo Soldiers National Monument on Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. It was one of our proudest moments. During that ceremony members of our organization buried the ashes of a former Buffalo Soldier at the foot of the National Buffalo Soldiers Monument. We all stood tall on that day and our organization gained a reputation of professionalism that is surpassed by very few. We had accomplished something that no other motorcycle organization had ever attempted to do and we did it with class and honor. The NABSMC works tirelessly in our communities to help raise money for charities and to promote good will. We are often seen in parades or working with children that are in need of a little extra love. We enjoy the experience of biking, the love and friendship of our motorcycle family, and the smiles on the faces of those in our communities that we are fortunate enough to help. Our many members salute all of you that also work hard to give back to your communities. We hope to see you on the road. Be safe. Ride easy, |
